About

The Scottish Fly Fishing Co. (formerly Nicol Paton Fly Fishing) was founded by experienced fishing guide, Nicol Paton and is based at the Maryculter House Hotel which sits on the River Dee, Scotland, on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

We own and operate salmon and trout fishing beats throughout Scotland and are a leading provider of fly fishing experiences, We work with clients who predominantly want to try their hand at catching trout and Atlantic salmon, we also provide casting tuition.

Fishing is a unique past time, it incorporates many, seemingly contrasting features. The tranquillity of beautiful rivers is often pierced with the exhilaration of landing a spectacular fish, the solitary endeavour is combined with the social interaction with other fishers throughout the day, while the thrill of what you might find on your line at the end of your next cast is always matched by our ultimate respect for the environment around us.

Our mission is to ensure our clients experience all of that, however proficient they may be, and wherever they fish with us, whether on our home beats, elsewhere in Scotland or internationally.

Whether you want to fish for an hour or a week, if you are a party of 1 or 21, get in touch with us to find out how we can make your fly-fishing experience one to remember.

About Nicol

Nicol Paton, the founder of The Scottish Fly Fishing Co, is one of the most experienced spey casting instructors in the area. He was born and brought up in Aberdeenshire and has fly fished for salmon for over 20 years on many different rivers throughout Scotland, including the rivers Spey, Ness, Shin, Carron, Dee and the Tweed, to name just some.

Nicol has an intimate knowledge of all of these Scottish fishing rivers and in particular, the River Dee and its surrounding areas. He has caught salmon across its length and breadth, this experience means he has an unmatched understanding of where the taking lies are and which beats and pools provide the best chance of a fish depending on the time of year and conditions.

Nicol has also travelled with groups of clients to fish in Iceland.

He has been involved with training, development and sports coaching across different disciplines and industries to a very high standard for almost two decades and holds his Scottish Game Anglers Instructor Certificate for double handed rods, along with a host of other teaching and coaching qualifications. His focus is making sure his clients have the best experience possible by providing a very high level of service.
